The University of Brighton Debating Society is an award winning, active, and welcoming community of individuals committed to discussion and dialogue.
We meet weekly for a series of debates, some casual, some serious, and over the past few years have been steadily growing our membership numbers and the variety of socials we host (for those interested). Members might even learn something, and failing that, might just make a friend or two!
Our society is primarily dedicated to freedom of speech, open debate and critical thinking. We welcome anyone and everyone to take part, regardless of experience level, degree course or political stance. You’ll find that our committee and membership is very diverse in background and opinions but we all have a shared commitment to the society and are willing to try and accommodate anyone who wants to get involved. We debate a range of topics such as morality, politics, philosophy, art, human rights, ideology and current affairs. As a rule of thumb, if it can be debated, we'll debate it!
We're also very excited to be attending a few Model United Nations this year, with our first being in Hamburg this winter! If you're interested in attending or would like to know more please contact any of the committee members, we'd love to have you along!
