By buying a membership for our society you receive insurance for all our events and help us to organise activities that are inclusive to everyone.
Debate Society is one of the most prominent student organisations at the University of Brighton, reaching the Outstanding Society Accreditation Level last year!
We are a welcoming and inclusive community that provides an arena for quality discussion and debate, on a variety of topics. We meet weekly for a series of debates, some casual, some serious, and over the past few years have been steadily growing our membership numbers and the variety of socials we host (for those interested).
(This term we'll be meeting in person for sessions as often as is possible, the rest of the time we'll be hosting debates on our Discord server!)
Our society is primarily dedicated to freedom of speech, open debate and critical thinking. We welcome anyone and everyone to take part, regardless of experience level, degree course or political stance. You’ll find that our committee and membership is very diverse in background and opinions but we all have a shared commitment to the society and are willing to try and accommodate anyone who wants to get involved.
We're also very proud to have brought a delegation to a Model United Nations in Hamburg last winter, and even though our trip to the Krakow MUN before summer had to be cancelled due to the COVID crisis, we continued to host debates twice weekly on our Discord server!
This year we're hoping to participate in an international MUN (COVID allowing)!
Our committee has been elected by the members of the society, to organise the running of the society. If you would like to be a committee member next year, look out for information about how to stand in February!
