University of Brighton Men's Rugby
We train on Monday and Friday nights, with the Monday night alternating each week between the Falmer ATP (Brighton Campus) and Eastbourne RFC (Eastbourne Campus), both 7-9pm. Our fitness sessions also run on Monday mornings, 7:15-8:15am, at both campuses. Friday night training is held at each campus to limit the travel across the week, more information can be found on our Facebook groups, below.
Our fixtures are held each Wednesday, more information about these fixtures can be found on the BUCS league website, and details will be posted on our Facebook groups closer to the start of the season.
During the 2017-18 campaign our 1st team completed an immensley succesful league campaign, finishing top of South East 2A, securing promotion to the BUCS South East 1A league. Our 2nd team achieved a mid-table finish in BUCS SE 3A and reached the Quarter finals of the South East Conferance Cup. Our 3rd team performed exceptionally by winning every tournament we entered and 90% of our matches throughout the season.
Whislt we play competetive university rugby throughout the year, we feel it is important not to forget the real spirit of university life. Our club is all about meeting new people and having a great time as well as playing rugby to the best of your ability. It is a firm belief in the club that the closer you are off the pitch, the better team you will become on it. Both campuses hold socials each and every Wednesday night; for those studying in Brighton, socials are held in the mighty Vodka Revolutions - The Eastbourne socials are at Maxims. As well as this, the club also holds many larger and more extravagant socials throughout the year, including joint-campus socials, Christmas and End of Season dinners, Charity touch tournaments and an Easter Tour. One of the many benfits of joining the rugby society is becoming close with other students with years of university experience and general knowledge of Brighton behind them from all parts of the country and world.
Being one of the largest societies in Brighton certainly has it's perks. We have an abundance of deals with different clubs, pubs and restauraunts across the city that offer us great deals every day of the week. Some of these include The Franklin Arms pub, Vodka Revolutions and Fat Poppadaddys to name a few. Make sure you find us at the freshers fair to find out more.
Our club holds various chairty events throughout the year, working closely with the Brighton Homeless Charity and Marie Curie. Last year we had several individuals running the Brighton Half Marathon in aid of Rosemere Bud and McMillan, and we aim to continue their good work this year by entering more members of the club into this fantastic fund-raising opportunity. We also carried out a landscaping project at the Moulsecoomb Community centre.
