Welcome to The University of Brighton Equestrian Team - providing affordable riding training specialising in Dressage and Showjumping, BUCS league competition teams for intermediate/advanced riders and recreational riding & competitions for novice/Intermediate riders!
After a successful and exciting year we aim to continue our winning streak as well as expanding our team as we believe everyone who wants to ride should get a chance to!
and guess what the best bit is...?
...No horse required!
I know, pretty great, right?
BUCS Competiton League:
We compete on horses we don't know a lot of the time, that's the thrill of it!
BUCS (British University & College Sport) is a league that runs up and down the country. In the BUCS league there are 160 University teams and two years ago our 1st team came 4th at Nationals! Our successful streak continued and we have had a couple of members being picked for the Team GB student riders squad which saw one Brighton Uni member have some fantastic results internationally. Then University of Brighton awarded us Team of the Year. This last year our new PresidentJenny Rowlinson qualified for Nationals individually where she finished 4th individually in the showjumping just missing out on the final. weve had some very successful years and we aim to do even better this year and get two teams to Nationals!
There are a lot of opportunities here not only to compete without owning a horse but also to meet awesome people from not just from our own university but from all over the country. (...and the world!)
William Fox-Pitt used to do it :]
For more info on the competition visit the BUCS website: http://www.bucs.org.uk/sport.asp?section=896
Some of our members prefer just to train with us and not compete, that's fine too!
Recreational Riding and Competitions:
Anyone can ride, so no matter if you've never done it before or have no gear. We run beginner/novice and intermediate lessons on Wednesday afternoons between 3 & 5pm. This is an excellent chance to develop your skills or learn something new! Every term we will run a fun competition so there's lots to work towards. It's a chance to meet other riders and ride some lovely steeds. We promise you won't get a cheaper, more value for money, riding lesson anywhere else!
There's even talk of a friendly competition with Sussex uni, Varsity here we come?
Plumpton have excellent facilities, with two large indoor arenas and an even bigger outdoor one, we're spoilt for choice.
Lessons for all members (and more) are organised in our FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/brightonuni.equestrian1617/ so get clicking if you wanna book!
If you fancy polo we'd highly recommend our sister club The Polo Team. We work closely together to hold lots of fun socials and activities together and help support each other through the year at events. https://www.brightonsu.com/organisation/club/11937/

Click here to open our Sports Clubs first session guide. This will detail how to get involved in sports clubs at the University of Brighton. Some first sessions are trials and some are simply an open first session for you to give something a go.
You can take part in as many clubs as you like and can fit in. You only need to buy one membership which should be for the club that requires the highest category membership. So if you do both a Bronze BUCS and Bronze Off-Site club then you just need a Bronze BUCS card. You only need to buy a membership if you are taking part in a BUCS fixture or you plan to continue to attend after the 31st October (whichever comes first). This gives you a great opportunity to try before you buy. Contact Sport Brighton if you have any questions.
