We understand the frustration and worry that some of you may have due to the recent Government announcement - we are here for you and with you. We have clearly heard the feedback and concerns about the implications on your health, studies and accommodation in particular. The official guidance for Universities is due out later today, so hopefully we will get more answers over the coming days.
Ahead of that, we know that only certain courses are allowed to return to campus for face-to-face teaching until mid-February at least in line with the current national lockdown. Your Officers are working with the University to understand exactly what the recent changes will mean and how they will impact you.
No Detriment Part 2?
This is a really important issue that your VP Education, Ramy has been leading on. I am pleased to say that before the winter break the University passed an updated policy to address the fact that students are not receiving the same experience due to the pandemic. You can see detailed FAQs here: https://www.brightonsu.com/support/no-detrimentpolicyfaqs/. Please get in touch with us if you think any areas have been overlooked.
This all adds to the growing pressure for the University to provide some form of rent reduction for those in Uni accommodation. Your President, Sihem will be meeting again with the Director of Finance at University of Brighton this week to discuss and lobby this key issue.
For those in private sector accommodation you can continue to use our template letter to write to your landlords – this will be available later this week so keep an eye out on our socials Please contact our Support Services if you need any support BSUSupport@brighton.ac.uk.
Financial and Technical Support
For help with finances during this difficult time, the University provide a range of funds to help you if you’re experiencing financial difficulty. This includes Digital Access Fund, Hardship Fund and Broadband Fund which you can apply for if you fit the criteria.
More details can be found here:
For those of you who have specific concerns with any impact yesterday’s announcement may have on your visa status, please contact CASenquiries@brighton.ac.uk who will be able to provide you with up-to-date advice and guidance depending on your individual circumstances.
As always, please share your personal experiences through your Course Rep, Officer Team or Student Support - BSUSupport@brighton.ac.uk. We need your continued feedback.
As soon as we have any updates, we’ll let you know. Thank you for your resilience. We are so proud to represent you. Wishing you continued safety and good health.
