How would you build belonging & community at the University of Brighton?

I believe communities often need more spaces where they can feel a sense of belonging. If elected, I will:

- Increase communication with students by introducing regular tailored surveys, community outreach, community speaks and events that support students and use their feedback to promote and create the change they desire.

- Continue to build and create safe spaces mentally and emotionally with events that promote awareness of all communities and their celebrations ensuring ALL persons feel connected, represented and included.

- Work closely with the Careers team on behalf of international students to increase their opportunities of securing placements and internships in their respected fields.

How would you work to amplify underrepresented student voices? 

In building community and belonging I will be able to amplify underrepresented student voices by:

- Developing and Promoting plans and campaigns that address important challenges faced by different communities within the University of Brighton, that impact the student's overall experience.

- Reintroducing “Culture Fest” as a larger event to ensure all cultural celebrations are given a platform for students to share their cultures with their peers.

- ?Facilitate themed workshops, in-person sessions and consistently share information on all platforms to increase awareness of All student rights.

- Collaborate with several organizations that support equity, culture, faith, inclusion and diversity to build the communities and grow support within the University of Brighton.

What skills or expertise do you have that would make you suitable for the role?

- I served as the Assistant Communications officer and then as the Communications Officer to one of the Chairpersons within the student union at my previous University. In this role, I ensured that the needs and challenges of students were communicated and favourable resolutions were formed between the University and the students.

- I spare-headed the Outreach committee under my portfolio where we raised funds by co ordinating events to teach, mentor and gift children at a chosen orphanage near the area of our university.

- I am a Course Rep and a current Engagement Team Assistant at the BSU where I recently lobbied for the relaunch of the Raise and Give Foundation to promote fundraising in the upcoming semester.
