What's on in Sussex this Summer?

Are you staying in Sussex this summer? Then read on! We’ve compiled this list of chronological events to make sure you make the most of the sunshine. Choose between festivals, events, music, culture and art.



3rd May – 2nd June – Brighton Fringe


Brighton Fringe is a fantastic celebration of everything quirky. There’s over 4,500 performers and it’s England largest open-access arts festival.


4th May - 26th May – Brighton Festival


Brighton Festival is now on, with jam packed events all month. Find culture, comedy, art, and more – there’s something for everyone.


18th May – 25th August – Glyndebourne

If you’re into the Opera, get yourself to Glyndebourne in Lewes and enjoy the gorgeous setting. Performances include La damnation de Faust and Cendrillon and Rinaldo.

7th June – 15th June – South Downs Way Walk

Do you love the beautiful Sussex countryside? Join the annual organised walk along the South Downs this year.

22nd. June – Brighton Colour Obstacle Run

The colour obstacle run is an amazing event to get involved in, and you can get 10% off if you get a group of four friends together! You can also join RAG to fundraise for Trekstock – Young Adult Cancer.


5th July – 7th July – Love Supreme Jazz Festival

Love Supreme Jazz Festival will take over Glynde Place early June, with the option to buy camping tickets for the full weekend. There will be live bands, yoga, food, and after parties!  


2nd August - 4th August – Brighton Pride

Brighton Pride is one that needs no introduction, it’s arguably the top Brighton event of the year to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community in a bountiful of colour and glitter. This year’s line-up includes Kylie Minogue, Clean Bandit and Fleur East. Our fantastic LGBTQ+ society will also be in the parade so go along and show your support!


4th August – BN1 Fest

BN1 Fest rounds off the Pride celebrations in Preston Park with music, street food and circus performers. Confirmed acts are Jessie J, Rak Su and Nina Nesbitt.

28th September – Boundary Brighton

Join us at Boundary Brighton to round off the end of Summer and kick off the new academic year! The festival is held at Stanmer Park and is part of our Freshtival 2019 programme! So far Chase and Status and Camelphat are confirmed headliners.


24th -27th May – Eastbourne Beer and Cider Festival

If you love cider and beer, come along to the Beer and Cider festival in Eastbourne – there will be a range of samples and you can sit and enjoy the sun.   

5th June – Eastbourne BSU Garden Party

Celebrate the end of the academic year with a fun-filled day run by the SU. The Garden Party will see dance performers, a live DJ, games and a magician. Tickets are just £6, available here!


6th June – Summer Ball

Eastbourne students! The Physio society are hosting a summer ball near Eastbourne Pier. Dance floor and cocktails all night!


21st – 29th June – Eastbourne International at Devonshire Park

Are you a fan of tennis? Then the Eastbourne International is the one for you, made up of men’s and women’s word-class tennis.


13th – 14th July – Eastbourne Beach Life

Come to the annual Eastbourne Beach Life festival, the south coast’s biggest free sports festival. Look forward to a wide range of activities, revolving around extreme sports.


20th July – Eastbourne Pride

Eastbourne Pride is slightly earlier than Brighton Pride, meaning you can celebrate both! Find out more here.



28th May – UoB Digital Media Festival

Come to Lewes Depot to celebrate the fantastic work of our Hastings Media students.

29th May - End of Year Party

Come and celebrate Hastings with your Students’ Union. We’ll be providing light refreshments, nibbles and entertainment at On the Rocks.

3rd July-6th July – Hastings Beer and Music Festival

Another beer festival? Ah, go on then. Check out the Hastings Beer and Music Festival – great drinks and even better performances.


We hope there’s something for everyone to enjoy, and can’t wait to see some of you at these events. Sussex in summer is really special, so make sure to make the most of it!
