Candidate for the position of Law Society - President

JESLICA FERNANDES

My name is Jeslica Fernandes and I am a second-year LLB Law with Criminology Student. I have a massive passion for law, but I am also very passionate about sports and media. Football is the primary sport I coach, however, I am also a multi-sports coach for summer camps during the school holidays. I have also recently started taking on managerial roles within the company. I am career driven, and independent but also really big on teamwork. I am constantly looking to improve as an individual and am always open to different roles.

I would love to apply for the role of president or VP Finance as they are roles I believe I could flourish.

I was a member of the law society last year and the Inclusivity officer this year and I believe I could bring more engagement within this society, especially with the second-year students. One event that was very successful last year was the film screening of The Mauritanian with a Q&A with Mohamedou Ould Salahi. Events like this would bring in more members to the society

I believe there needs to be ways of helping the first years when making the transition from first-year to the second year to aid them in their studies. I know many of the students are struggling with the workload this year, and as a society, we could get the lectures to help out students in seminars to explain something they missed in lectures.

My idea is to hold a law-specific career fair, encouraging the students that have been part of a low economic background to take part, to allow them to network and create bonds that will help be helpful in their careers. This will be a step forward to equalling the playing field.

I believe I will be able to bring in a lot of my characteristics for this role specifically but I am more than happy to be considered for any other role within the society.
