Do you want a Students' Union bar?
Our current President Jacob Kahane gives you the lowdown on his quest for SU bars.
‘Every SU in the country has bars, why don’t we?!’
This is something I hear a lot from students at the University of Brighton and quite rightly so. Why don’t we have bars?! It’s a question I asked when I was studying and I never got an answer so I ran for President to try and change things. Now we’re making it happen. It’s been a few years since the Union ran its own bars but now we’re getting back into the bar business.
Very soon our Cafés at Falmer and Moulsecoomb will be converted into Café Bars and we’ll also be working with the University to make Stokers Cafe Bar in Eastbourne a big success. This means that if you want a beer after a long day of studying, you can get a beer after a long day of studying and if you want a glass of wine with your food, you’ll be able to get a glass of wine with your food. The cafés at Falmer and Moulsecoomb will start selling alcohol during the Summer Term* before getting a refurb to get them ready for the new academic year this September. Stokers will be reopened in September but this time the Students’ Union will be the landlord!
We are your Students’ Union and we are here for you to tell us what we should be doing. That is why we exist as an organisation and it is really exciting for us to be able to bring bars back to campus after our members have told us that is what they want! I hope you’re as excited as we are and we’d love to hear what you think. If you want to know more or let us know what you think about this then please email me at [email protected]!
