Following recent Government advice on the 16th March, Brighton Students’ Union has decided to work remotely for the wellbeing and safety of our staff and students. It is important to be clear that the University and the Students’ Union are not closing. You can still contact us.
The University has decided to suspend all face to face teaching from the end of Friday 20th March, switching to remote teaching as of Monday 23rd March. This is a safety precaution against coronavirus (known as COVID-19).
University buildings including specialist facilities, libraries, cafes, halls of residence and other University facilities will remain open to students for the time being.

Students’ Union reception areas, offices, Mithras Shop and The Hive (Falmer) will be closing Wednesday 18th at 5pm.
BSU Shops at Falmer, Moulsecoomb, Grand Parade and Basement Central will remain open until 5pm on Friday 20th. We have made the decision to keep these services open for as long as possible, recognising that students may need essentials before closures. Of course, this is something we are monitoring and constantly reviewing in line with the Government advice and if anything changes, we will update you via our channels.
Brighton Students’ Union is committed to making student life better and we understand that the current situation is worrying and making some students feel anxious. For more information around your course and finances, please see the University Hardship Fund for students, which provides extra funding for students who are experiencing financial difficulty as a result of their circumstances.
You can also speak to your School Office around exams and lost learning if you are worried.
Elections are going ahead, but voting will now take place online only via our website. This will be between Monday 23rd and Thursday 26th March. Unfortunately, we have cancelled our Elections Results party, but you can find out the results on Friday 27th March via our social media channels.
Advice for societies: Unfortunately, due to the closure of our physical spaces we will no longer be able to hold events or meetings. We recommend taking sensible precautions by following Government advice, which includes washing your hands regularly, self-isolating if you are presenting symptoms for 14 days at your residence, avoiding mass gatherings and working remotely if possible.
It is important to stay connected with updates, and advice by following our social media channels, checking in on our webpage and reading our e-newsletters.
