Over the past 6 months, I have been actively lobbying the University of Brighton to address the public transport issue at Varley Park.
Currently, all students wanting to travel by public bus are required to wait at the Hawkhurst Road bus stop, which is having an effect on the Coldean residents and has done for years, especially when students are waiting for the bus late in the evening.
I am pleased to be able to update you that research has been completed by the University and the Council to assess the feasibility of getting the Brighton & Hove buses on to Varley Park, which has resulted in the findings that there is an issue with the height of the road at the Varley Park/Coldean Lane junction which would need to be rectified in order to protect the vehicles as they travel up and down the slope.
I am also pleased to be able to update you, that since that discovery, the University has warranted a thorough investigation of the problem and will now be condensing the results into a proposal to take to Brighton & Hove Buses and Brighton & Hove City Council, to get the road adjusted.
As I am now leaving my position of Vice President Activities, the BSU President will ensure that you are updated with the feedback from the meeting with all the Stakeholders at the earliest opportunity, along with any proposed details such as the time and duration of carrying out the work.
Please feel free to reach out to the President: Calvin Jude Jansz at BSUPresident@brighton.ac.uk
