Now that you know you're coming to the University of Brighton, it's time to get your phone properly equipped with all the apps you'll need to make your student life easier, cheaper and more fun! Here are our must-have apps.

For studying

Now you're a student, you can also get Microsoft Office 365 for free! Download Word, PowerPoint and Excel on all your devices to study and work on that essay or presentation wherever you are! Search for them on Google Play or the App Store.

Also from Microsoft is Office Lens. Make revising for that exam easier than ever by converting pictures of lecture slides, hand-outs and whiteboard text into editable Word and PowerPoint files. Available on Google Play and the App Store.

The University also offer an app, Blackboard Learn, where you can check your timetable and access resources for your course whilst on the move! Available on Google Play and the App Store.

Hold appFor all the procrastinators out there, Hold is definitely the app for you! Open the app and leave your phone for 20 minutes or more to focus on your studying, and you'll be rewarded with points you can spend on discounted cinema tickets, free Costa coffee and much more. Avoid the hassle of citing your sources and let Citationsy do the hard work for you. Create citations from your sources by simply scanning the barcode and export them in a variety of different styles, making sure you have the right type of reference for your module! Available on the App Store.

GoConqr will be a life-saver for you during the exam season. Work with friends to create a variety of resources, such as mind maps, quizzes and flashcards, to help you revise like a pro! Available on Google Play and the App Store.

For budgeting

TotumMake the most of your new student status and download the new Totum app from NUS. Combined with your Totum (formerly NUS Extra) card, you can grab all the best student discounts on the high street, from Apple to ASOS. Totum's app launches later this month.

Earn points for buying things at the students' union using Yoyo. Pay using the app and you can save points to spend on snacks, reusable cups and memory sticks. Available on Google Play and the App Store.

For food

Domino's appDownloading the Domino's app is a must for most students, espeically with their deals especially for students! With the Totum card, you can bag yourself 25% off orders over £25. Bon appetite! Available on Google Play and the App Store.

Hate food waste and want to save money? Try out Olio! Browse through a selection of surplus food available for free or for a donation, including homegrown vegetables, bread from local bakeries and other unwanted food. You can also even find some household items, including toiletries, clothes and furtniture. We use Olio too, so keep an eye out for food from your Union shop! For wellbeing

If you're being plagued with stress and anxiety, consider trying Headspace to restore calm and balance to your day. Choose from a variety of guided meditations, track your progress and jump into an 'SOS' session in moments of anxiety. Available on Google Play and the App Store.

Stay Alive appFor more information about crisis support, the Stay Alive app by Grassroots Suicide Prevention is full of useful information to help you and others, with resources, a safety plan, information about myths surrounding suicide and a life box where you can store important photos. Available on Google Play and the App Store.

For travel

Brighton and Hove Buses appIf you're going to be travelling to and from campus this year, Brighton and Hove Buses' new app is a necessity! Track bus times and buy your ticket and never worry about missing your bus or not having change ever again! Available on Google Play and the App Store.

Make sure to also download the new app for the university's free bus service to keep track of bus times live from the palm of your hand. Mobile Onboard is due to launch at the start of term.

For entertainment

Another must for any new student is Spotify. Work on playlists and add banging tunes with your new housemates, and save 50% on Premium as a student! Available on Google Play and the App Store.

Wriggle appExplore some of the best independent stores and restaurants in Brighton with Wriggle. Get a daily selection of local food and drink offers to browse new places, support local businesses and save yourself money. Available on Google Play and the App Store.

Circle of 6 appIf you’re heading out with a bunch of housemates, it might be a good idea to download Circle of 6. Designed specifically with university students in mind, add up to six friends and if you get into an uncomfortable situation or get lost, use the app to send an SMS alert message with your exact location. Keep track of how much you’re drinking using Wise Drinking. This app helps you follow your alcohol consumption and even calorie intake as the night goes on. Available on Google Play and the App Store.

Heading home? Download the Brighton and Hove Streamline taxi app to make sure you get home safely. Book a car in just two taps, get an estimate for your journey and track your driver’s arrival. Available on Google Play and the App Store.
