Society of the Month October's Runners Up

We had some amazing entries for the first Society of the Month of this year - Check out our very close runners up…

In Second Place we have Engineering Society!

Engineering Society have had a busy time and have held two events already this year! Most recently the society took a trip to the TCT Engineering Show, giving everyone the chance to see the latest manufacturing techniques and technologies that could be utilized in their studies. The group also visited the IrvinGQ in Wales during the summer break, this gave them the chance to observe the various branches of specialized engineers that can be employed. This demonstrated to them that that regardless of the types of engineer, the spectrum of specialties and paths they can take are unlimited. What a brilliant inspiring sentiment to start the year on!

In joint Third Place are Ecological Society and Pharmacy Society!

Ecological Society welcomed their new members with a taster to demonstrate what the society is all about! They arranged a nature Hike on Devils Dyke and from the look of these pictures it was a lovely day for it! The walk gave the new members a great chance to get to know each other and take in the local area and natural beauty surrounding them.

Pharmacy Society held a bar crawl for their first event of the year. During the event the society played games, chatted and danced with one another. The events aim was to help the students relax during this busy time of year and it gave the students an opportunity to take a break from their busy schedule. The event also help the different cohorts get to know each other.

But it doesn’t stop there! We also had some more brilliant entries including …

Mojitos & Movie Night was the theme of Mixology Society's first event this year!

The aim of the night was to introduce and inspire students and freshers to the art of cocktail making and responsible drinking.

It also gave the opportunity for new members to meet fellow students and help widen their social circles. After the mojitos the group proceeded to watch a critically acclaimed and award-winning film ‘Joker’ in a private viewing at Eastbourne Cineworld!

Occupational Therapy Society has been out and about for their Soc of the month entry. They visited the Museum of Brands to learn more about the Brand Memories programme being carried out by the museum for people living with dementia. The event was a great learning opportunity for the students as they could learn about effective and interesting therapeutic interventions for people living with dementia. It was also a brilliant chance for the cohorts to meet each other, brilliant work Occupational Therapy Society!

Creative Writing Society has been thinking on their feet this month in their first session of the year - Create-a-Character workshop.

The society helped everybody to create a character by filling out character profiles provided by the committee, they then all created different fantasy settings, it was then time to swap characters and settings around the room and this then created pieces of creative writing. The Society said the end results were amazing and “Our most successful event yet!”.

The Feminist Society welcomed all their new potential members with a donut or two and arranged a brilliant first meeting to help everyone get to know each other. They learnt about everyone’s different views on feminism and discussed some future events and how these can work to help everyone be confident in their version of feminism.

First Aid Society have been getting their members trained up ready for the year ahead! They ran a training session on basic life saving skills (primary survey and recovery position) and created scenarios to give students an idea of the real life situations they could face. This sounds like a great introduction to the society!

SeaSoc welcomed their new members to the society this month. The group played a variety of games and activities in their welcome event. They have been busy planning their events for the year ahead and are excited to get people from different cultures and ethnic backgrounds together to build relationships with each other.

Hiking and Tracking Society have been enjoying the great outdoors this month exploring Stanmer Park. This gave the new members the opportunity to see the local area.  While on the hike the students discussed topics of interests and got to know each other. The Society said the first hike was a perfect example of what the society is all about!
