Candidate for the position of Drama Society - President

Tess Black

Hi I’m Tess, I am a Primary Ed student and I would love(!!!) to be your president! Before coming to UoB I attended a Drama school in London and have been part of the acting world for many years - it is honestly my biggest love and, to quote paul mescal (the second biggest love of my life) - “its a problem - but i'm enjoying my love affair with acting!”.

My experience being at drama school means I have nicked loads of games and activities from industry professionals and have a well stacked knowledge of plays, acting techniques and advice. Aside from drama school I have also directed before, both at a fringe festival (hint hint I can do it again for Brighton Fringe summer play!) and with a touring theatre company, I’ll be able to find us the best venues etc. as I've booked festivals before. I've even booked a show in Athens working with language barriers so I hope I'd do okay here!! I like to think I’m a good level of silly and serious and want to bring that to BUDS. Acting, for me, is all about play, even in the hard-hitting, serious stuff. I’ve had intimacy and inclusivity training; meaning we can go far in boundaries we want to push whilst making sure drama is a safe space for all, and I am always someone you can talk to.

All of that makes me sound super pretentious (I’m sorry)  but basically: I am experienced. Aside from the boring stuff above, I swear I'm MEGA fun and you'll all win oscars if you vote for me. Also, since I’m training to be a teacher I have a big loud teacher voice I can use to whip you all into shape. I love a big night out and silly themes, as well as wholesome activities so I’m up for any kinds of socials.

Finally, if you vote for me I'll make Sam give up drinking Prime - and we all know that’s for the best.
