Candidate for the position of Drama Society - VP Finance

AMANDA PRENDI

Hi, I’m Amanda (she/her), or you might remember me as ‘Man 2’ (“He was a jackass!”).  I am a 2nd Year Accounting and Finance student, and I would like to run for Vice President of Finance.

Whilst at university I have been no stranger when it comes to trying new things (fun fact I tried rugby and I almost got crushed in my first game, which then quickly became my last game – HaHa).  Nevertheless, by far being part of BUDS  has been such an incredible and welcoming experience. To think I have only been here for 6 months, just shows how fast time goes. In addition, by taking on various different roles of responsibilities whilst attending university, I have learned a lot of new things. For instance, working as a student ambassador and course representative. This has given me the opportunity to make a lot of new connections with staff, students, and other members of the student union that I think will benefit the team.

A little background about myself from before I started university. Is that I took part in a number of school productions while I was in school, either by helping out with front of house or as part of the cast. In the Beauty and the Beast production. The team and I planned and organised the production's advertising and sales activities, which included ticket sales, seat assignments and making posters, all while making sure that the audience had a positive experience.

I have been a bookkeeper for about five years, which is a more relevant example of experience that I think will be helpful in the position of VP Finance. Keeping track of business finances and creating invoices and paperwork for accountants was my main role. As a result, I feel that my ability to negotiate, analyse critically, and manage my time will be helpful as vice president of finance.

Furthermore, another example of working as a team was at sixth form where I had joined a Chaplaincy team, and the purpose of the role was to raise awareness and money for different charities. An example of an event was Teacher Karaoke Event with a raffle, to raise money for First Steps Charity. We were given a 2-week deadline, therefore applying quite a fair amount of pressure to get the job done as fast and effectively as possible. The event had over 800 students attended and as a result of our actions by working together as a strong team, is that we were able to raise over £1370.

And finally, a sweet short story to demonstrate my negotiation skills in finance. On a lovely, sunny day, my best friend Grace and I decided to take a trip on Cambridge's canoe boats. The seller quoted £28 each, but I was able to bargain it down to £18.

I will never back down never give up. It’s my inner girl boss drive, with the extra kick of caffeine from my caramel soya lattes (my one true love).

Overall, my main aim is to make sure that financial resources won't ever be an obstacle or a hindrance to you all pursuing and enjoying your creative talents.
I strongly believe I am capable and responsible for this role, and I'll be there to support you all by bringing enthusiasm and positivity.

I appreciate you taking the time to read or listen to my manifesto.

Please feel free to ask any questions; I'm always happy to help and listen.
