How would you build belonging & community at the University of Brighton?

  • Focus on creating a sense of belonging and community by establishing distinct mentorship programs that are tailored to the needs of various student communities.
  • Incorporate a sense of community and belonging by commemorating religious and cultural holidays, such as Chinese New Year, by looking into offering a special menu item in addition to the normal menu.
  • Work with Sports Brighton to ensure that there is increased diversity of sports for those with disabilities.
  • Work to provide welfare drop-in sessions for students.

How would you work to amplify underrepresented student voices? 

  • Amplify underrepresented student voices through the organisation of events and initiatives that not only showcase diversity but also promote inclusivity.
  • I will make an effort to actively listen to the issues and suggestions raised by minority students and implement practical solutions to show my dedication to fairness and diversity.
  • I will work to provide platforms such as forums where underrepresented students can share their experiences, perspectives and ideas.

What skills or expertise do you have that would make you suitable for the role?

As the current postgrad and international officer, this has has allowed me to lobby for campaigns such increasing working hours for international students, plan and host postgrad weeks and a language lounge session. Additionally, through querying the university this has for resulted in a fee extension for international students with unavoidable circumstances.

  • I have gained the skill of advocacy for student interests both individually and collectively.
  • I have learned how to efficiently communicate with diverse groups of students.
  • Collaborative/ organisation skills as I have experience working with student societies and organisations to manage projects and events.
