£28,145.00 - £30,749.00


Contractual Hours - 37.00 per week

Brighton Students' Union is going through a really exciting phase with a brand new Students' Union bar being built at the heart of the University's new Big Build Development on the Moulsecoomb campus.

We are now at the stage where we are looking for an amazing individual to head up the development of this venue.  This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to get involved in the 2nd phase of the build and fit-out and to influence the final look and layout of our flagship venue, as well as participating in the recruitment of the rest of the team and the creation of the operational systems and procedures needed to run a successful bar.

The Role
This new role will be responsible for the effective operation and development of the new bar, including day-to-day duties, stock control, financial control, excellent staff management, great customer service and ensuring full complicance with all relevant legislation.

Experience and Knowledge
Applicants will need to demonstrate their experience and knowledge of:

  • Successfully managing a busy licensed trade venue.
  • Co-ordinating, managing and motivating a team that offers excellent customer service.
  • Confident in IT systems such as EPOS and staff management systems.
  • An understanding of and application of effective product selection and stock management.

The Person
The successful candidate will  be passionate about the licensed trade, events, food, drink and creating memorable experiences for our students at the venue. They will need to have excellent communication skills, be a positive role model to staff and students and be an effective leader. Naturally they  will also need to have a sound understanding of statutory requirements that are applicable to bars and venues.

The Hours
The role is being offered on a full-time permanent contract working 37.00 hours per week.  Evenings and weekend work will be required and actual working days and times will be agreed with the successful candidate.

The Location 
The successful candidate will primarily be based in our brand new venue at the Moulsecoomb Campus, with travel to other University of Brighton sites as required.
